Cuba Slams U.S. for Hostile Actions Against Venezuela Amid Escalating Tensions

Cuba has expressed grave concerns regarding the potential consequences of U.S. military actions in the Caribbean, particularly in relation to Venezuela. The Cuban government has characterized the ongoing deployment of U.S. military forces as an “exaggerated and aggressive” threat to regional stability. In a statement released on Tuesday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez called on the citizens of the United States to reconsider this trajectory, which he termed “madness.”

Rodriguez warned that U.S. interventions could lead to untold casualties and foster instability within the hemisphere, emphasizing that such actions would violate both international law and the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter. In light of escalating tensions, Rodriguez reaffirmed Cuba’s steadfast support for Venezuela.

This stern warning from Cuba follows ongoing geopolitical maneuvering by the United States, as reports emerge that President Donald Trump is contemplating further actions against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Despite the Trump administration’s repeated accusations of Maduro’s involvement in narcotics trafficking, concrete evidence to substantiate these claims remains elusive.

In recent months, the U.S. has significantly intensified its military presence in the region, reporting involvement in various operations that have reportedly resulted in the sinking of several boats alleged to be engaged in drug trafficking. Cumulatively, these operations have raised serious ethical concerns. Legal experts suggest that, even if illegal drugs were found, such military actions risks transgressing international law. The presence of approximately 15,000 U.S. military personnel in the Caribbean marks the most substantial U.S. military footprint in the region in decades.

Compounding these issues, the U.S. has designated the Cartel de los Soles—a term used to describe high-level corruption among Venezuelan officials—as a foreign terrorist organization, although this classification is met with skepticism regarding its factual basis.

In the meantime, top U.S. military officials have embarked on a diplomatic tour across the Caribbean, meeting with regional leaders to discuss collaboration on shared challenges, including those posed by illicit narcotics and transnational crimes. During these meetings, U.S. military representatives have reiterated their commitment to regional partnerships and cooperative stability in the face of challenges.

Most Caribbean nations have adopted a cautious stance regarding U.S. military actions, advocating for dialogue and restraint. However, some regional leaders, like Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, have explicitly supported aggressive measures against narcotics trafficking, illustrating the divergent views within the region on how best to tackle these pressing issues.

As geopolitical tensions continue to escalate, the need for open dialogue and proactive diplomatic engagement remains critical for the stability of the Caribbean region.
