Muslim voters in the United States demonstrated a significant preference for Democratic candidates in the recent elections, as revealed by a new exit poll conducted by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The survey indicates a resounding 97 percent of Muslim voters in New York City supported the election of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, a representative of the Democratic Socialist movement.
In Virginia, Ghazala Hashmi, a Democratic Muslim American, garnered an impressive 95 percent of the Muslim vote in her successful campaign for lieutenant governor. Moreover, several centrist Democratic candidates also received strong backing from Muslim voters. Notably, Congresswomen Abigail Spanberger of Virginia and Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey achieved approximately 85 percent support from the Muslim electorate in their gubernatorial races.
The poll results further indicated that California’s Proposition 50, which endorsed a congressional map favoring Democrats, captured the support of 90 percent of Muslim voters. CAIR reported that the survey included responses from 1,626 self-identified Muslim respondents, highlighting a considerable turnout among the Muslim community.
