Novo Logistics Recognized as Top Family-Owned Business by NNBW
In a shining example of sustained excellence in entrepreneurship, Novo Logistics has garnered the prestigious title of the 2025 Best in Business Family-Owned Business from the Northern Nevada Business Weekly (NNBW). This recognition underscores the company’s impactful journey and growth since its modest beginnings in Reno. Founded in the year 2000, after Ryan Peirce graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, the company has evolved significantly over the past two decades.
Ryan Peirce started as an employee and later acquired Novo Logistics four years later, transitioning into the role of Chief Executive Officer. Working hand-in-hand with his mother, Joanne Peirce, who serves as a managing member, the duo reflects the collaborative spirit inherent in family-operated businesses. This partnership, they assert, provides a unique dynamic, fostering trust and open communication crucial for navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship.
“Running a business alongside my mom has provided me with a unique and fulfilling sense of partnership and collaboration. There’s an undeniable bond that comes from sharing the challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship with someone who has always been a guiding force in my life,” stated Ryan Peirce, expressing his appreciation for their working relationship.
Novo Logistics specializes in various services, including dedicated warehousing, contract labor and manufacturing support, multi-client warehousing, and local and regional transportation. The company has expanded remarkably from a single facility in Reno, which initially housed approximately 30 employees, to operational reach across nine states. Currently, Novo maintains offices in key locations including Reno/Sparks, Columbia, South Carolina, Indianapolis/Whitestown, Indiana, Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Lexington, South Carolina. As of late last year, the company employed around 550 full-time staff, with 75 individuals based in the Reno/Sparks area alone.
The NNBW awards spotlight the significant contributions of family-run businesses in the local economy, with Novo Logistics taking top honors, followed closely by Haven Florals in second place and The Cheese Board in third. The latter, owned by sisters Caitlin Fletcher and Krista Phillips, continues to thrive as a woman-owned establishment since 1981. Their partnership, characterized by mutual respect and complementary skills, showcases the broader theme of family bonds driving success in business.
The success stories emerging from these family-owned ventures illustrate how personal relationships intertwine with professional aspirations, resulting in businesses with strong community ties and long-term viability. For both Novo Logistics and The Cheese Board, the commitment to operational excellence combined with familial support underscores the value of intertwining work and family life, ensuring that their legacies will likely endure for generations to come.
