Cambodia’s Ministry of Defence has raised alarms regarding ongoing military operations by Thailand, specifically citing the use of F-16 fighter jets that reportedly continued to bombard Cambodian territory on December 13, 2025. This assertion came shortly after US President Donald Trump announced an agreement between Thailand and Cambodia to cease hostilities.
In a statement shared on social media, Cambodian officials detailed that the Thai military had deployed two F-16s to drop seven bombs on various targets, which included infrastructures such as hotels and bridges situated in the Thmor Da area of Pursat province, located near the border with Thailand. This area had already been a hotspot for violence, with local reports confirming significant damage to hotel and casino facilities due to these aerial attacks.
Prior to the ongoing incidents, on December 12, President Trump communicated his conversations with leaders from both nations. He claimed to have brokered an agreement with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to halt “all shooting” in light of the recent escalation of tensions. Trump described the development as a crucial step towards renewing a peace accord facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Despite these assurances of a ceasefire, the Cambodian Defence Ministry confirmed that the bombings had not yet ceased, leading to a growing humanitarian crisis. Amidst these escalating military actions, the conflict, which is rooted in long-standing territorial disputes surrounding historical temples, has reportedly resulted in at least 20 casualties among civilians and military personnel from both nations. Additionally, approximately 200 individuals have sustained injuries, and a staggering 600,000 people have been displaced across the 800-kilometer (500-mile) border that demarcates the two countries.
As international observers monitor this conflict closely, the imperative for a sustainable resolution becomes increasingly evident. Collaborative efforts aimed at dialogue and peace-building are essential to alleviate human suffering and foster stability in this historically rich yet troubled region.
The international community remains hopeful that diplomatic interventions will help restore peace and reinforce the importance of cooperation among Southeast Asian nations, showcasing the region’s resilience and commitment to reconciliation.
